A sad air crash in Ahmedabad airport has claimed lives of many and shocked the nation to its core.
Air India Boeing 787 crashed as it went off fairly soon after a takeoff. It hit a student hostel near the runway. The hostel was predominantly inhabited with medical students.
There is still lack of confirmation of the exact number of deaths on the ground. The final number of deaths has already been reported by the authorities to be a number of fatalities. Emergency engineers and other locals arrived at the scene within a short time. They assisted in searching debris of the wreckage to find people alive. However, when they arrived they found something sad, burned bags and metal pieces and burned garbage.
An inquiry of the incident by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is underway. Other specialists abroad have been incorporated in the team. The cockpit voice recorder and the black box have been located. These will assist the investigators to know what failed in the few seconds following the take off.
One of the reasons could be engine failure. However, there has been no definite reason that has been established. Boeing 787 is associated with the modern safety equipment. It is the first crash in this aircraft model. The authorities are monitoring carefully whether there is any problem with the software or mechanical aspect.
Four countries in India are in mourning by their families. The victims had been going to London. Nobody thought that the voyage would lead into a disaster.
Prime minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the crash location. At a later time he issued a statement to the country:
The devastation scene is depressing. Taking away lives of so many people in a so abrupt and heartbreaking way cannot be described in words. We express our thoughts to the concerned families of the deceased. Om Shanti.”
There has been candlelight vigils in Ahmedabad and other cities. Moments of silence have occurred at dozens of airports in India.
The victim relatives are demanding clarifications. They question the reason behind the crash. They even have questions relating to whether it could have been prevented or not. Flight safety in India has been dealt with a lot of questions due to the tragedy.
The victims have their families that are being assisted by Air India. The airliner has declared its full cooperation in the investigation. But it is a grievous loss. The killed lives cannot be substituted with money.
One of the passengers was rescued out of the wreckage. they now have the remembrance of exiting alive and others did not.
The last words that the pilot uttered could be found in the black box. “Mayday, no thrust, losing power, unable to lift”, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal said.
These are the words, which can stay with the country even in years. They also remind people about a tragedy that transformed the lives of many.
and may the victims be respected. And may there be truth to all this that comes out in the open such that the bereaved can now start the healing process.
