HUGE VICTORY of KOCHI TUSKERS KERALA!
The Bombay High Court has sealed a huge legal victory when it enforced a 538 crore arbitral award issued in favor of Kochi Tuskers Kerala against BCCI in their case regarding the termination in their agreement. And here goes the story!
In 2010, Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) and Kochi Cricket Pvt Ltd (KCPL) invited Kochi Tuskers as a second game of India premier league, infatuating the mechanics with the cricket rule of Kerala. However, in the year 2011 BCCI canceled their contract because of a delayed bank guarantee. Kochi Tuskers claimed that the delay was because of such reasons as lack of stadium facilities and reduced number of IPL games.
RSW and KCPL retaliated and in 2012 initiated arbitration. In 2015, the tribunal gave KCPL 384 crore in lost profits and RSW 153 Crore in wrongful encashment of a bank guarantee and interest. BCCI appealed the award however it was dismissed by Justice R.I. Chagla on June 18, 2025 who gave credit to the decision made by the arbitrator as the termination was found to be a repudiatory breach on the part of BCCI.
Such a 538-crore loss to the BCCI is considered to be amongst the greatest financial losses in the IPL and it is a victory to the Kochi Tuskers who has had and played only one iconic season in 2011, with their unbelievable win against Mumbai Indians!
Will this lead to the IPL comeback of Kochi Tuskers?
