BCCI Tightens Grip on IPL Camp Content After CSK Net Bowler’s Viral Videos

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly intensified its monitoring of social media activity during the ongoing IPL season after a controversy involving a net bowler from Chennai Super Kings surfaced online.

Delhi-based wrist-spinner Jishan Adil, who has been training as a net bowler with the franchise, claimed on social media that the team management asked him to remove several bowling videos recorded from inside the CSK practice camp. The clips had recently gone viral among IPL fans for showing behind-the-scenes training sessions and competitive net battles involving CSK batters.

According to screenshots and reports circulating online, Adil posted an Instagram story saying that although the videos received massive support and quickly gained traction, the franchise later instructed him to take them down from his account.

The development appears to be part of a larger crackdown by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on what officials reportedly describe as “reel culture” around IPL teams. The board is said to be concerned that informal behind-the-scenes content could unintentionally expose tactical information, dressing-room discussions, team combinations, or other sensitive details during the tournament.

Reports also suggest that stricter anti-corruption and operational guidelines have been implemented this season. These restrictions allegedly extend beyond players and now include commentators, broadcast personnel, content creators, and even family members associated with franchises. One BCCI source quoted in multiple reports claimed that a former international cricketer working in broadcasting was seen recording videos near a dugout during a tense match situation, prompting concerns within the board.

The incident reflects a growing tension within modern cricket between fan engagement and competitive secrecy. IPL franchises have increasingly embraced digital storytelling and social media-driven content in recent years, giving fans unprecedented access to training camps, travel routines, and player interactions. However, the BCCI now appears determined to draw a clearer line regarding what can be shared publicly during the tournament.

While neither CSK nor the BCCI has released an official detailed statement on Adil’s case so far, the controversy has already sparked debate among fans online. Some supporters believe such restrictions are necessary to protect team strategy and maintain tournament integrity, while others argue that controlled behind-the-scenes content helps strengthen fan connection with the league.

For now, the message from IPL authorities seems clear: access to team environments may remain highly restricted as the BCCI attempts to maintain tighter control over information flow during one of the world’s most commercially valuable cricket tournaments.
