England vs India Series Will Now Be Played For Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy

India and England are said to be playing their Test series for a brand new trophy named after Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. Before, once the Test series between India and England concluded, the Pataudi Trophy was given to the winner.

The Test series between England and India which begins on June 20, 2025, will not be played for the Pataudi Trophy.  However, the teams will be aiming for the newly awarded Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.  To recognize these two cricket aces, Sachin Tendulkar from India and James Anderson from England, the rules have changed.

The creation of the Pataudi Trophy in 2007 resulted from the family name, with Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi captaining England and India and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi being India’s captain in the 1960s and 1970s.   Both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided that retiring the Pataudi Trophy and starting a new one would honor more recent cricket stars.

The Test series will compete as part of the schedule set for the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.  Ben Stokes will be in charge of England’s team and Shubman Gill will lead India.  The series opener is taking place at Headingley in Leeds and the last game will be at The Oval in London on August 4.

This shift introduces a new stage to England vs India matches, by paying tribute to the major accomplishments of two great cricketers.
